PlayStation 5: No free Horizon: Forbidden West Upgrade possible

The Open World Roleplay Horizon: Forbidden West appears in the form of multiple different versions for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. With the standard, digital deluxe, collector and Regalla editions.

Since the procedure of numerous editions for PS4 and PS5 owners is a bit confusing, one has released a FAQ, because how now came out buyers of the PS4 standard or PS4 special editions to check out twice when they play the game want to play on the PlayStation 5. An upgrade is not possible!

According to official information in this Sony FAQ, the PlayStation 4 version of the title will also be playable on the PlayStation 5, but then must give up all the graphic appreciation and PS5 features. A subsequent upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for a fee will also be not possible.

So Sony asks all Sony fans twice to checkout and requires all players to decide in advance either for the PlayStation 4- or the PlayStation 5-version or buy the Digital Deluxe, Collector or Regalla Edition.

Sony make.believe

While players buying the Digital Deluxe Edition, Collector's Edition or Regalla Edition, get access to the versions of the Guerilla Games title for both console generations, buyers must refer the standard or special edition with the console for which they were acquired. An upgrade, for example, for 10, - Euro as in previous titles on one of the higher versions is also not possible.

So far, Sony players have often been offered the ability to upgrade their PlayStation 4 versions. In part, the upgrade, such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, was provided free of charge. In other cases, as well as for the Title Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut and Death Stranding: Director's Cut planned, Sony asks all once again to checkout and requires a fee of 10, - Euro for upgrading.

Since Horizon: Forbidden West will appear in contrast to the titles mentioned in 2022, this could point to a strategy change by Sony from next year. In the future, Sony could then completely separate between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. At the latest now, many PlayStation fans want a Smart Delivery control of the console manufacturer, as it operates Microsoft. Players always receive the Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S version when buying a game that comes from the company.

Sony proves once more like well Smart Delivery for Xbox really is!
