New World: A feature gives me the feeling to finally believe in a MMO

The MMORPGNEW WORLD has the chance to bring new wind into the genre again and flare up old love. Because the political groups could give a sense of belonging, which may happen today in modern MMORPG.

For many people, it's a nice feeling if you belong to a group. And there is also a belonging to New World, because at the beginning of the game you have to connect a group. You have the choice between the marauders, the syndicate and the alliance.

These three fractions wrestle together with the rule over Aeternum. This shows directly and obviously in the game, because the card shares in several areas that can be directly controlled and colored in the color of the fractions:

The rule on the territories has positive impact on the players who are traveling there and belonging to the ruling faction. On the one hand, there is a first reason to be a sublime feeling to be in the own area. My faction is here the ruler, makes room for me!

Who writes here? Matthis has been playing MMORPGs for almost 15 years and has accumulated several thousand hours in several titles. Everything started with Guild Wars. He is currently spending his time with Final Fantasy Xiv. New World he has tested in the beta and the game has surprised him positively.

In addition to the good feeling, belonging to it, there are real bonuses in the game when you are traveling in an area that has been conquered by your faction:

  • More resources when collecting
  • Discount on the speed trip
  • Access to the warehouse
  • Greater chance of HQ objects at the craft

So it is worthwhile for you to be in the fields on the way, which belong to your faction.

The political groups themselves communicate with each other via the group chat and in this chat was already a lot going on during the betas. And the beautiful thing is that you have exchanged about the events in the game.

So it often went about how the control of the political groups have shifted over the areas overnight and what they could do about it. Overall, you have somehow felt belonging to its faction.

Of course, there was a bit rough, but the chat was alive. If other players wanted to use the channel for a private conversation, then they were friendly, but certainly asked to continue this elsewhere, according to the motto: please only write here if it concerns the faction, thank you.

In particular, the preservation of own settlements was our faction at heart and I can imagine that it looked similar in other factions. For a faction dominates an area, then a company that belongs to this faction may apply for a settlement. A settlement is an important meeting place for the players because they are there:

  • Buy and set up houses
  • Make items
  • Access the trading post
  • Accept quests and orders

If you've already done something in a settlement, then you will noticed that every time a small fee will be retained. Even if you own a house, you have to pay a small property tax once a week, which goes to the company, which currently dominates the settlement. And also the topic tax was not omitted in the fraction chat.

Self-controlling the faction together - or weaken you

The amount of taxes and fees is determined by the ruling companies. The governor of the settlement can use the revenue to finance the expansion of a settlement and, for example, improve the craft stations, or unlock certain lifestyle improvements for residents. This has a positive effect for gameship - and indirect also for the group.

But too high taxes can ensure that no one wants to stay in the settlement and new players do not want to buy house here. Because as in real life is in New World: Almost nobody likes to pay taxes. And almost no one likes high taxes. Here it came to a very simple conflict of interest between company and games.

In the beta, this has led that some companies wanted to use a cute secondary service via taxes from a settlement, as Twitter users @official_ragnar brings very well to the point:

Partly it came to the fact that the ruling company was not liked by the players of their own faction. And players who do not like the rulers of a settlement will not be rushed to their defense and provide raw materials for expansion. From this experience, for example, wrote Fwankie on Twitter:

The poor yellow (Covenant) had to live with 25% taxes. Even you yourself have hated your leader. Meanwhile, purple (syndicate) has grown together as a community. [...] We were motivated and organized.

The fractions in New World could ensure that a strong sense of belonging arises, which goes beyond that of a single guild. And from this sense of belonging, the willingness could arise to use for the whole faction, together to implement their own goals and grow a very natural community in the end.

How are your experiences with the factions in New World and how was the climate in them? Is you a sense of belonging in an MMORPG, or do you prefer to play for you or in a small group? Let us know in the comments.
