Alex Corretja in the interview: There is no time to eat

Alex Corretja, during the US Open you will see you again millions of times on the screens. What does a typical day look like for you during a Grand Slam tournament?

Alex Correthja: Normally my day starts very early at the tournaments and listen very late. It is always very exciting, I interview completely different players with different play styles. Let's stand in the studio, sometimes next to the square, sometimes I comment games for Spanish television. Mostly there is not even time to eat. Especially in New York and Melbourne, the plants are very big, after an interview you run directly to the next game. One tries to see a little bit of the game, looking for statistics, consider the questions. Since you are already very busy. But I do not make it 52 weeks a year, so I enjoy the time very much. Of course, I also have the advantage that I always interview the winners, that makes it easier (laughs).

With the US Open your day will look different now. They will not be on site.

Yes, that will be a great changeover for me. I will be with Barbara (Schett, Anm.D.Red.) In the studio in London and moderate the show, Mats (Wilander, Anm.D.Red.) Is in New York and leads the interviews. We'll do it now and then look how it works. We can make many great things in the studio. Of course it is different for me, because I prefer to be on the plant. You can see the players, you know what's going on, you have a feeling for the weather, all these details. But I think the viewers are not so much.

He is like a little brother for me.

How does the contact go to the players? Do you write whatsapp messages?

If you are not on site, it is of course harder - alone already because of the time shift. I was a professional profession and does not want to bother the players during the tournament - although I have some mobile phone numbers. But I'm not a journalist and does not want to get out of the players as much as possible, but I'm one of them. If I am on the plant and players see, I can of course ask them things: Are the places fast? Are the balls heavy? How are the conditions? But if I'm not on site, I do not want to take advantage of my contacts. It should expire friendly. If I know something, then I see that as information and not as a headline. I do not want to be the first to the public and keep it for me.

They worked with Andy Murray for three years, their relationship with him is still considered good. Does he sometimes remove advice from them?

No, not at all. It is much more a friendly relationship. When we see each other, we talk about football, tennis, family matters. I know that we can talk about everything, but I do not give him advice. He's like a little brother for me, but I'm not his coach anymore.

Alexander Zverev has played in the narrow favorite circle for the US Open with its Olympic gold medal and the victory in Cincinnati. Is he the biggest challenger for Novak Djokovic?

He and Medvedev are the two toughest opponents for Djokovic for me. Sascha (Zverev, Note d. Red.) Is now convinced that he can win. He knew that he knew a very good player, but I think he had the feeling that something is missing. Now he has more experience, he is more relaxed and has his emotions under control. His surcharge is a big weapon on hard space, his backhand has always been strong, his forehand has improved very much. He has found a good balance between aggressiveness and defensive, but is not too passive, is more on the net and plays a lot of freelance. I think he is ready to win a Grand Slam title. & Nbsp;

One year ago, Zverev was missing in the final against Dominic Thiem only two points to victory. Was not he ready yet?

Last year he was already very close to it, but I had the feeling that he was not convinced. That has now changed. The gold medal has given him so much confidence and the victory in Cincinnati has proven that he is more mature now. I do not know if it's going to happen in New York, but I'm 100 percent safe and would bet many things to win one, but several majors in his career.

Who will win the US Open?

I have to tap on Djokovic. He was almost perfect this season, just lost a big match against ZVEREV at Olympia - and he could have gained that too. In the game around Bronze he was no longer focused. He will get back his rhythm in New York, it is important to beat him. Zverev, Medvedev and TsitsiPas can be dangerous to him, maybe a few others.
